    • Compositor

      Mr. X is looking for talented compositors to work on high-end feature film projects. Responsibilities include:

      • Working closely with Compositing Supervisor to determine best approach to solve compositing challenges and develop final look
      • Performing tasks such as tracking, matte extraction, colour correction, paint fixes, roto and assembly of live action and 3D elements
      • Producing a final overall look that far exceeds client expectations

      Qualifications:

      • Must have at least one year experience in compositing digital visual effects for feature film
      • Demonstrated knowledge and production experience with Flame, Shake and/or Combustion
      • Must present a show reel highlighting candidate’s eye for colour, lighting, attention to detail and composition
      • Strong communication skills are critical. Candidate must be able to work within a team, taking direction and exercising attention to detail in a fast-paced production environment.
      • 3D and/or on-set production experience is desirable

    • Senior Compositor

      Mr. X Inc. is seeking a Senior Compositor

      Description:

      Working closely with Visual Effects Supervisors, Producers and the Compositing Supervisor, the Senior Compositor will:

      • Design, develop and produce large and/or small-scale digital composites for use in feature films,
      • Determine best approach to solve compositing challenges and develop final overall look that far exceeds client expectations,
      • Perform tasks such as tracking, matte extraction, colour correction, paint fixes, roto and assembly of live action and 3D elements.

      Qualifications:

      • Must have at least 3-5 years experience in compositing digital visual effects for feature film,
      • Must have thorough knowledge and ability to use the tools that produce Digital Composites such as NUKE, Shake, Combustion, Flame and Photoshop,
      • Must present a show reel highlighting candidate’s eye for colour, lighting, attention to detail and composition,
      • The candidate must have the ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines
      • Strong communication skills are critical,
      • Candidate must be able to work within a team environment,
      • 3D and/or on-set production experience is desirable.

    • CG Supervisor

      Mr. X is currently seeking CG Supervisors and senior level 3D artists for upcoming feature film projects.

      Description:

      • Work closely with VFX Supervisors, TDs and Compositing Supervisors.
      • Collaborate to establish efficient delivery workflow, technical pipeline and methodology.
      • Provide technical, artistic and creative leadership to the 3D department.

      Prerequisites:

      • 5+ years feature film experience as a visual effects CG supervisor.
      • A demonstrated proficiency in photorealistic modeling, texturing, lighting and rendering.
      • Expert level knowledge of Maya, Renderman and MentalRay.
      • On-set supervision and data collection experience a plus.
      • Solid leadership skills and a positive attitude.
      • A current demo reel (DVD or VHS only).
      • Resume outlining educational background and work experience/credits.
    • Lighting Technical Director

      Mr. X Inc. is seeking a Lighting Technical Director.

      Description:

      * Create lit environments and elements, including placing key lights, creating shadows, etc. for both rendered and real-time imagery,
      * Create and adjust lighting set-ups as dictated by the team’s level lights and developing new ones as needed,
      * Set-up compositions from existing elements, add post-production processing, and render final sequences,
      * Work closely with compositors to finish selected shots so that computer generated elements are seamlessly integrated with live-action plates,
      * Responsible for final 3D scene assembly incorporating the illumination and rendering of all 3D elements required to complete shots as well as compositing to ensure quality and coherency of the elements generated.

      Qualifications:

      * Ability to perform visual and analytical problem-solving in 3 dimensional space,
      * Ability to problem solve and predict potential problems with assigned tasks,
      * Two years experience with a high-end systems such as Renderman, Alias, Maya, Houdini, Unix,
      * Understanding and experience with advanced compositing concepts,
      * Two years experience with C-shell scripting and/or programming languages,
      * Ability to work well in team atmosphere.

    • Texture/Lighting/Modeling Artist - Intermediate

      Description:

      Although first and foremost a creative position, technical skills are a must. Candidates must have 3+ years of practical experience working in feature film post-production as a Texture/Lighting/Modeling Artist.

      * Create lighting designs, textures and models to achieve photo-real creatures, vehicles, objects and environments, etc.
      * Proficient in writing and developing rendering solutions and Shaders using Renderman, Maya, Mayaman and Mental Ray
      * Has experience with optimizing and debugging renders and developing and implementing systems and pipelines for visual effects work
      * Maintain and develop Xrender, a set of proprietary software tools that manage the studio’s distributed rendering
      * Researching and further developing Mr. X’s in-house 3D rendering software - a highly optimized ambient occlusion ray tracer

      Qualifications:

      * At least 3+ years experience working in feature film post-production.

  • Production and Administration

    • Visual Effects Coordinator

      Mr. X is looking for a highly motivated VFX Coordinator to work on high-end feature film projects.

      Responsibilities include:

      • Working as part of the film production team to implement viable VFX solutions.
      • Developing project plans and delivery schedules to ensure deadlines are met.
      • Coordinating animators, compositors and internal production staff to ensure efficient workflow
      • Serving as liaison between clients and the studio
      • Working closely with editorial
      • Managing and logging incoming elements, footage, data, notes, etc.
      • Overseeing outputs and client deliveries
      • Maintaining project databases
      • Helping coordinate onset during visual effects shoots

      Qualifications:

      • Feature film experience as a visual effects or post production coordinator is required
      • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.
      • Candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys working in a fast-paced creative team environment
      • Working knowledge of a feature film production and post-production pipeline
      • Excellent computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Microsoft Access, MS Project
  • Technical

    • Studio Tools Developer/Software Engineer

      Description:

      As an in-house Software Engineer at Mr X you will:

      * Maintain and develop XRender, a set of proprietary software tools that manage the studio’s distributed rendering
      * Develop new tools and applications to assist CG artists in managing resources, render processes and CG assets
      * Provide support to individuals using these tools
      * Develop and distribute new systems and scripts and maintain relevant versions and libraries
      * Troubleshoot specific technical production related issues with artists
      * Researching and further developing Mr. X’s in-house 3D rendering software - a highly optimized ambient occlusion ray tracer
      * Research emerging industry trends in 3D animation and computer graphics with the goal of upgrading and improving the Mr. X production pipeline

      Qualifications:

      * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other technical degree with 1+ years experience in a software development environment required
      * Shell and scripting language such as python, TCL, or perl required
      * Experience with C or C++, java, OpenGL, MFC
      * Experience with computer graphics production including experience with MAYA API, SL (Renderman shading language), Mental Ray API
      * SQL and database experience
      * Proficient in UNIX
      * The ability to work independently
      * Good communication and organizational skills

    • VFX Technical Director

      The duties are a mix of CG and VFX Shot-work, to continue development of in-house software, and to provide assistance to artists executing production tasks.

      Responsibilities:

      • Primarily responsible for the development of visual effects and/or VFX systems for Feature Film under the guidance of a departmental project lead.
      • Work directly with artists to define simulation workflows and interfaces, address shading issues, lighting and rendering challenges.
      • Build and maintain the VFX toolset (Houdini OTL's, Maya MEL scripts).
      • Assist in the on-going development of the production pipeline software (mostly python and C++)

      Requirements:

      • At least 3 years feature production experience as a Technical Director including experience with Houdini, Maya/MEL, and Renderman.
      • Working knowledge of current VFX practice and photorealistic lighting techniques.
      • Experience with VFX simulation: cloth, particles, fluids.
      • Good working knowledge of python.
      • Experience with C or C++, java, OpenGL, MFC, and revision control (CVS) a plus.
      • Experience with Nuke and Massive a plus.
      • Good knowledge of Unix/Linux a plus.
      • Ability to adapt CG solutions to follow changing production notes in a dynamic environment.
      • Must be detail oriented, organized, have good communication skills, and be able to independently handle a variety of tasks in an efficient manner.
      • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline (advanced degree preferred), or equivalent experience.

When submitting your portfolio/reel, please do not include original work, as we are unable to return the materials you submit.

Demo Reel Submission Guidelines

Please send us a DVD or VHS of the work that you are most proud of and that best demonstrates your abilities, starting with your most recent work. Music is not necessary. Your demo reel should be limited to 3 minutes in length.

Include a credit list explaining what you did on your reel and what software (if applicable) was used to achieve the effects.

Please note that CDs, Beta and demo materials submitted over email will not be accepted.

Once your materials have been received we will send acknowledgement by letter or e-mail within 3 weeks. Should a position become available that matches your unique set of skills and talents, we will contact you.
